EAAs Supplementation: Mitochondrial Function and Clinical Outcomes

Protein malnutrition is the main determinant of frailty and sarcopenia in elderly people. Specific EAA mixture may contribute to slow-down mitochondrial dysfunction and to ameliorate clinical status.

  • 155 elderly malnourished patients
  • randomised in 2 groups: EAAs and placebo supplementation
  • followed for 2 months

  • oxidative stress in plasma
  • mitochondrial production of ATP and cellular respiration in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
